Havering Asks
Time style event jointly hosted by Havering College and Havering Council. The event is an excellent opportunity for students at Havering College and other schools in the area to engage in discussion and debate with politicians and other media figures.
The production of the show is managed entirely by students at Havering College and is incorporated into their curriculum and assessment. Students from a multitude of disciplines such as make-up, music production, film and TV production assist in the production of the show, while catering students provide the food and assist with hospitality events associated with the show.
The event was first held on 20 October 2011 at Havering College's The Space facility and was attended by 130 students from 7 different schools within Havering.
Last year's panel was chaired by veteran BBC broadcaster Michael Cockerell and included panellists: the political commentator and author of Owen Jones, the Leader of Havering Council Cllr. Michael White, Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate Bridget Fox and X-factor finalist Danyl Johnson.
After the event a short promotional video and a 'Behind the Scenes' video was made.
A five minute video of the event was submitted to the BBC Schools Questions and Answers competition, which Havering won and hosted a live webcast BBC Question Time-styled program.
Havering Asks is planned to run for its second year in November 2012. While panelists have not yet been confirmed Michael Cockerell has expressed a willingness to return as the Chair of the panel.
The Swiss R&B / Rap artist Jay-D aka Yung Fly or The Journey is also studying at Havering College in the Music Department
